Christiane
Spitzmueller

An internationally recognized academic, Christiane Spitzmueller has built her career at the intersection of research, institutional development, and strategic planning. In the United States, she held positions of increasing responsibility at the University of Houston and the University of California, Merced, where she led initiatives focused on academic program development, organizational innovation, and strengthening connections between universities, businesses, and institutions.
She founded the Center for Applied Psychological Research at the University of Houston and served as Director of the Center for Excellence in Faculty Advancement (CEFA), a National Science Foundation-funded research consortium dedicated to advancing academic careers. Her research, recognized in 2025 with the Raymond Katzell Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, focuses on the relationship between universities, organizations, and people development, with a strong emphasis on bridging academic research and the business world.
Originally from Germany, Christiane Spitzmueller spent more than twenty years building her academic career in the United States, alongside extensive international collaborations across Europe, Canada, and Nigeria. She later moved to Bologna with her family to take on the role of Dean of Bologna Business School.
