Federico Pennino
PhD Student University of Bologna

I am a researcher in the field of machine learning, with a particular focus on applying Deep Learning techniques to the racing domain and on developing machine learning solutions for industrial environments. I recently completed my PhD at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI), where my research centered on automotive applications.

During my doctoral work, I actively collaborated with Ducati Motor Holding, contributing to projects on connected motorcycles and virtual sensing systems. My academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Pisa (2020) and a double degree completed in 2022 between the University of Bologna (Computer Science) and Bielefeld University (Intelligent Systems).

COURSES

This course offers a practical introduction to Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal AI systems, guiding participants from the fundamentals of neural networks to modern generative and agentic capabilities. Through conceptual explanations, real-world examples, and hands-on demonstrations, the course aims to show how LLMs process information, how to interact with them effectively through prompt engineering, and how they can be integrated with tools, automations, and external knowledge sources. The goal is to equip attendees with the skills to understand, use, and apply LLMs confidently within professional and organizational contexts.

Data Science and Business Analytics
Artificial Intelligence for Management

The course provides an overview of the key concepts and recent advances in Deep Learning, focusing on the functioning and practical applications of neural networks. Students will learn how to design, train, and evaluate Neural Network and Computer Vision models, exploring modern architectures such as CNNs, ResNet, and YOLO. The course combines theoretical foundations, business applications, and hands-on laboratory activities.
