On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, the first BBS Leadership Talk of the year will take place at the BBS New Campus, featuring Mariarosaria Taddeo, Professor of Digital Ethics and Defence Technologies at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford.

During the talk, titled How AI is Reshaping the Defence Industry and its Ethical Challenges, the growing role of artificial intelligence in the defence sector and its complex ethical implications will be explored. The session will be opened by Max Bergami, Dean of Bologna Business School.

Mariarosaria Taddeo is an internationally recognized expert in the ethics of emerging technologies. Her research examines the impact of artificial intelligence on security, national defence, and cyber conflicts, with contributions published in leading scientific journals such as Nature, Science, and Nature Machine Intelligence. Throughout her career, she has received numerous international awards: ORBIT named her among the 100 most influential women in AI ethics worldwide, InspiringFifty recognized her as one of the 50 most inspiring Italian women in technology, and in 2023 she was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of Italy.

This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of technological innovation, defence, and ethical responsibility, providing insights into how AI is reshaping contemporary geopolitical and industrial landscapes.
