Participants in the <\/span>Executive Master in Food Innovation and Regeneration<\/b><\/a> experienced their first <\/span>Smart Week<\/b>: four intensive days of company visits, meetings with the innovation ecosystem and project-based sessions dedicated to the possible futures of food systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The week opened in Modena with a visit to <\/span>Italpizza<\/b>, where participants explored the evolution of the <\/span>frozen pizza<\/b> category, the journey that led the company from private label co\u2013packer to <\/span>brand leader in Italy<\/b> and an internationally expanding player, and a guided tour of the production plants, ending with a product tasting.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the afternoon, the group was hosted by <\/span>Tetra Pak<\/b> at the Customer Innovation Centre in Modena, for a session focused on <\/span>food & beverage trends<\/b>, new tools for <\/span>co-design with clients<\/b> and the <\/span>Digital Product Passport<\/b>, followed by a company tour.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the second day, the class travelled to Lavezzola (Ravenna), to <\/span>Surgital<\/b>, where the company presentation and factory tour were complemented by a training session with the Operations Director and the R&D team, confirming the <\/span>key role of research<\/b> in premium frozen fresh pasta. Returning to campus was an opportunity to rediscover <\/span>Villa Guastavillani<\/b> and the new facilities, and to take part in a team-building activity in the Sala del Ninfeo.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday the focus shifted to <\/span>Felsineo<\/b>, a benchmark in mortadella production, with a company visit dedicated to supply chain processes and a product tasting lunch, before heading back to the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the afternoon, Smart Week moved to the heart of the innovation ecosystem with <\/span>\u201cAlmacube | Empowering Innovators\u201d<\/b>: a session led by the innovation hub and certified incubator of the University of Bologna, with contributions from <\/span>Felippe Fontanelli, Francesco D\u2019Onghia and Nicole Monti<\/b>, dedicated to <\/span>open innovation pathways<\/b> for SMEs and corporates and to startup programs.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was followed by talks from <\/span>Vaimee, O-Damp, NuhPro and Altograno\/Molino Casillo<\/b>, bringing concrete cases on how to turn ideas into solutions, validate them with industrial partners and <\/span>scale their impact<\/b>. The day ended with a <\/span>Veganuary networking aperitif<\/b> with the Faculty, featuring a fully <\/span>plant-based menu<\/b> built around innovative products from food-tech startups: an experiential way to discover the <\/span>new frontiers of plant-based food<\/b> beyond the stage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Smart Week concluded on Saturday with the workshop <\/span>\u201cProsperity Thinking for Future Food Systems\u201d<\/b>, led by <\/span>Matteo Vignoli<\/b>, who invited participants to rethink food systems through the lens of <\/span>prosperity<\/b>, integrating economic, social and environmental dimensions and connecting what they had seen in companies with the long-term challenges of food innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taken as a whole, Smart Week enabled the Executive Master in Food Innovation and Regeneration community to move from <\/span>direct observation of plants and products<\/b>, to <\/span>dialogue with startups and innovators<\/b>, and finally to <\/span>strategic reflection on the futures of food<\/b>. A concrete example of how in Bologna Business School learning is built at the intersection of <\/span>classroom, enterprises and the innovation ecosystem<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n
