Mauricio Macri, former President of Argentina and former President of Boca Juniors, returned to Bologna Business School to speak about <\/span>pressure<\/b>\u2014the kind that <\/span>distorts our perception of time<\/b>, <\/span>multiplies variables<\/b>, and <\/span>forces decisions<\/b> when information is incomplete and the <\/span>margin for error is high<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The <\/span>Leadership Talk<\/b> with students from the <\/span>Global MBA<\/b> and the <\/span>Professional Master in Business Management<\/b> unfolded as a <\/span>personal and professional narrative<\/b>, far removed from abstract formulas. Macri built a story shaped by <\/span>uncertainty<\/b> and <\/span>responsibility<\/b>\u2014conditions well known to anyone who leads <\/span>organizations, institutions, or communities<\/b>. In this scenario, <\/span>leadership does not mean total control<\/b>, but rather the <\/span>ability to decide<\/b> even when the risk of error is significant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Doing what is right, not what is convenient<\/b><\/p>\n

One of the central points of the talk concerned the <\/span>spirit of leadership<\/b>. Within this fragile balance, <\/span>ego<\/b> represents one of the greatest pitfalls. When it takes over, the leader risks losing a sense of <\/span>collective responsibility<\/b>, confusing the <\/span>role<\/b> with <\/span>personal interest<\/b>. <\/span>Justice<\/b>, by contrast, requires <\/span>detachment<\/b>, <\/span>clarity<\/b>, and the ability to assess the <\/span>long-term consequences<\/b> of one\u2019s decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leadership and teamwork: extending vision beyond individual limits<\/b><\/p>\n

Another key theme addressed during the talk was the <\/span>role of the team<\/b>. According to Macri, an individual can see only as far as their <\/span>immediate capabilities<\/b> allow. This is why a leader must <\/span>\u201cadd arms to their own\u201d<\/b>: building teams that <\/span>expand vision<\/b>, <\/span>challenge assumptions<\/b>, and <\/span>support complex decisions<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Capability and humanity: the weight of decisions<\/b><\/p>\n

Macri also reflected on the <\/span>scale of decisions<\/b>\u2014from the <\/span>individual<\/b> to the <\/span>collective<\/b>, from the <\/span>city<\/b> to the <\/span>nation<\/b>. Leadership involves <\/span>technical competence<\/b> and <\/span>strategic ability<\/b>, but also a <\/span>deeply human dimension<\/b>. Every choice produces <\/span>concrete effects<\/b> on <\/span>people<\/b>, <\/span>organizations<\/b>, and <\/span>broader contexts<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keeping <\/span>ego under control<\/b>, in this sense, becomes a <\/span>necessary condition<\/b> for balanced decision-making. It means <\/span>listening<\/b>, <\/span>accepting challenge<\/b>, and recognizing that a leader\u2019s role is not to <\/span>always be right<\/b>, but to <\/span>create the conditions<\/b> for decisions to emerge from a <\/span>solid and responsible process<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

An open reflection on contemporary leadership<\/b><\/p>\n

The meeting with Mauricio Macri offered <\/span>BBS students<\/b> a reflection on <\/span>leadership as a daily practice<\/b>\u2014made of <\/span>difficult choices<\/b>, <\/span>responsibility<\/b>, and <\/span>attention to people<\/b>.
