Students of the <\/span>Professional Master in Business Management<\/a><\/strong> at <\/span>Bologna Business School<\/b> experienced a learning day unlike any other. In the dynamic setting of <\/span>Zoneplus<\/b> \u2013 inspired by urban American <\/span>basketball culture<\/b> \u2013 they took part in an intense <\/span>team building<\/b> workshop led by <\/span>Alessandro \u201cAlex\u201d Finelli<\/b>, professional basketball coach and business trainer, long involved in leadership, performance and teamwork development.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop was a true <\/span>experiential lab<\/b>, where the court became a space for <\/span>reflection<\/b> and <\/span>shared practice<\/b>. Every technical gesture turned into a symbolic act, reframing key teamwork dynamics through the <\/span>language of sport<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two participants, <\/span>Angie Bregu<\/b> and <\/span>Brice Atsou<\/b>, offered their thoughts on the experience, from different yet complementary perspectives.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat struck me most was Coach Finelli\u2019s ability to <\/span>translate his on-court experience<\/b> into a <\/span>cross-cutting lesson<\/b>, one that clearly applies to the workplace,\u201d said Angie.\u00a0 \u201cThough I\u2019m familiar with coaching dynamics, I had never seen them reframed through the lens of <\/span>leadership<\/b> and <\/span>team management<\/b> in a business setting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For Brice, what stood out most was Finelli\u2019s ability to connect <\/span>sports and business<\/b> effectively and engagingly:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was truly impressed by both his <\/span>basketball and business knowledge<\/b>. The <\/span>parallel between both worlds<\/b> was clear and well delivered. Although stepping on the court could be intimidating for some, he made everyone feel comfortable right away. The balance of discussion and <\/span>physical activity<\/b> made the experience very impactful for our <\/span>group dynamics<\/b>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the session, Finelli introduced exercises simulating <\/span>team plays<\/b> \u2013 passing sequences, shots, position switches \u2013 each with a clear objective: turning movement into <\/span>active metaphor<\/b>, highlighting <\/span>communication<\/b>, <\/span>responsibility<\/b> and shared focus.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cReflecting on the <\/span>interdependence<\/b> in team sports helped us understand how each result \u2013 such as scoring a basket \u2013 is just the final step of a <\/span>collaborative process<\/b>,\u201d added Angie.<\/span>
\n<\/span> \u201cThis perfectly mirrors the workplace context, where <\/span>timely<\/b> and <\/span>precise communication<\/b> is essential for project success.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Brice highlighted:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSports teach you <\/span>discipline<\/b>, <\/span>mental strength<\/b> and <\/span>resilience<\/b>, but above all, <\/span>team spirit<\/b>. We learned to recognize strengths and weaknesses and communicate effectively. It wasn\u2019t about competition, but <\/span>collaborative play<\/b> \u2013 a powerful experience that made teamwork tangible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond teamwork, the day also held deep <\/span>relational<\/b> value. Stepping away from academic routine and engaging in a <\/span>physical, shared activity<\/b> helped strengthen bonds within the group.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, the workshop sparked reflection on the meaning of <\/span>leadership<\/b> \u2013 not a static or hierarchical role, but a practice based on <\/span>example<\/b>, <\/span>listening<\/b> and <\/span>group cohesion<\/b>. As Brice concluded:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn both sports and business, you work in teams toward a <\/span>common goal<\/b>. A leader must inspire, communicate, correct and guide. The <\/span>connection between leadership in sports and in business<\/b> is strong and increasingly relevant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
