This vision is embodied in the new Geoeconomics & Geopolitics course launched by a prominent figure in the international landscape: Alec Ross.<\/span><\/p>\n

A <\/span>Distinguished Adjunct Professor<\/b> at BBS for several years, Ross inaugurated the course within the <\/span>Global MBA<\/b><\/a> with a keynote lecture attended by a diverse audience of international professionals. His ability to weave together <\/span>geopolitical analysis, economic trends,<\/b> and <\/span>technological innovation<\/b> provided students with a unique perspective on the forces shaping the future of <\/span>global business<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The course is characterized by its <\/span>practical approach<\/b>, focusing on real-world <\/span>case studies<\/b> that illustrate the direct impact of <\/span>geopolitical tensions<\/b> on <\/span>business operations<\/b>. From managing <\/span>supply chains<\/b> amid <\/span>international sanctions<\/b> to <\/span>technological competition<\/b> among <\/span>global powers<\/b> and the emerging challenges of <\/span>energy security<\/b>, these are the key topics that <\/span>Global MBA<\/b> students are exploring.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the occasion of this inaugural lecture, we had the opportunity to interview <\/span>Alec Ross<\/b> to gain his insights on the future of <\/span>geoeconomic dynamics<\/b> and the essential <\/span>skills<\/b> for tomorrow\u2019s leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What are the main geoeconomic challenges that future business leaders will face?<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

I believe that advancements in <\/span>technology<\/b> and <\/span>science<\/b> will continue to <\/span>reshape economies<\/b> at an increasingly rapid pace. There is a crucial <\/span>geographic dimension<\/b> to this, with the <\/span>United States<\/b> and <\/span>China<\/b> investing far more than <\/span>Europe<\/b> in a significantly less <\/span>regulated environment<\/b>. <\/span>Business leaders<\/b> must therefore decide how and where to <\/span>allocate their research and commercialization assets<\/b>. Should they <\/span>diversify geographically<\/b> the locations where they <\/span>conduct research<\/b> and <\/span>manufacture their products<\/b>? And if so, where? In the <\/span>United States<\/b>, in <\/span>Asia<\/b>, or should they concentrate on <\/span>Italy<\/b> and <\/span>Europe<\/b> as a whole?<\/span><\/p>\n

How is geopolitics influencing global business strategies?<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

We are entering a <\/span>new geopolitical order<\/b> that is significantly impacting <\/span>economies worldwide<\/b> and, consequently, <\/span>business strategies<\/b>. Anyone who claims that <\/span>globalization<\/b> is over is <\/span>mathematically illiterate<\/b>. <\/span>Global trade flows<\/b> continue at <\/span>exceptionally high levels<\/b>. What has changed is that <\/span>geopolitics<\/b> is now interfering with the <\/span>free movement of goods and services in a way we haven\u2019t seen since the <\/span>1980s<\/b>, with rising <\/span>tariffs, sanctions,<\/b> and a <\/span>reorganization of supply chains<\/b>. This demands that <\/span>business leaders<\/b> become far more <\/span>agile<\/b> at every stage of their <\/span>operations<\/b>, from <\/span>research and development<\/b> to <\/span>customer delivery<\/b> and every step in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

What skills are essential for navigating geopolitical uncertainty in business?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A <\/span>proactive approach<\/b> is key: those who can <\/span>act decisively<\/b> amid <\/span>volatility<\/b> will gain a <\/span>competitive edge<\/b>. <\/span>Inaction is not an option. Therefore, the necessary <\/span>skills<\/b> include <\/span>agility, flexibility,<\/b> and <\/span>resilience<\/b>. It is crucial to be able to <\/span>plan and define long-term strategies<\/b> while also <\/span>adjusting short-term tactics<\/b>. The inherent challenge lies in balancing <\/span>short- and long-term goals, and the ability to <\/span>manage this tension<\/b> is a fundamental trait of any <\/span>global leader<\/b>. This requires <\/span>interdisciplinary expertise<\/b> and <\/span>continuous learning<\/b>. <\/span>Leaders<\/b> must constantly <\/span>challenge their assumptions<\/b> about <\/span>markets and maintain the <\/span>mental flexibility<\/b> to <\/span>adapt their strategies<\/b> based on <\/span>new information<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n
