Titled <\/span><b><i>The Future of Refrigeration: how innovation can reduce costs and carbon footprint<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the talk addressed a pressing issue: the environmental impact of traditional refrigeration technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Pastore explained, <\/span><b>cooling systems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on vapor-compression technology, developed 140 years ago, account for up to <\/span><b>10% of global CO2 emissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, surpassing the combined emissions of the aviation and maritime sectors. Moreover, these systems consume 17% of global electricity, with growth rates three times faster than other technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The talk highlighted the potential <\/span><b>of &#8220;solid-state&#8221; technologies,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which eliminate the use of refrigerant gases and present a more efficient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional systems. These innovations not only reduce environmental impact but also offer cost-effective solutions for various industrial sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participation in events like SIGEP reflects Bologna Business School&#8217;s commitment to providing its students with hands-on, <\/span><b>multidisciplinary experiences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,
